About This Class
American Literature: This is a course in the history of the rich literature of the United States from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. Included are novels, short stories, plays, poems, and essays. The readings offered represent some of the many themes found in American Literature during this time period.
Early American Literature: This course surveys major texts, authors, and works in American Literature through the end of the nineteenth century. Major concepts include religion, freedom, and what it means to be an American.
Each of these courses requires that your prior knowledge of reading and writing will be used extensively. Come to class prepared to think critically about and discuss the imaginative literature written by Americans like you!
