Classroom Conduct
In order to make the most of our time together in class, here are some general rules for classroom conduct:
- Students will arrive to class on time
- Students will have all homework completed prior to arriving to class (click here for what you'll need this year)
- Students will bring materials necessary for class each day
- Students will not interrupt those speaking and will be respectful of others' opinions
- Students will ask questions when material is unclear (if you have a question, chances are others have the same one!)
- Students will refrain from using their cell phones in class
- Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated

Absences and Late Work
I understand that unexpected circumstances arise and we all get sick. In the event of an excused absence, you are expected to turn in your work the day you get back. Assignments due online will not be accepted late. If you are absent the day of an exam, it is recommended that you notify me in advance in order to make arrangements to make it up. If the absence was unplanned, you must make it up after school the day you return to class. Late work will not be accepted in the event of an unexcused absence. Journals are completed in class only and they are not subject to make up if you are absent.
Classroom Participation
In order to fully immerse yourself in the literature we will be reading, I expect you to participate in classroom discussions about the material. The journals you complete at the beginning of each class period are designed to stimulate the day's discussion, so sharing what you've written is a great way to start the discussion. Participation is worth 10% of your final grade.
Extra Credit
There will be no extra credit offered, however, there will be opportunities for extra credit on midterms and the final exam.
Office Hours
I am available Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 8:00 and 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm and also by appointment. If you have a quick question or need clarification about an assignment, feel free to email me. If it is before 9:00 pm, I will respond the same day.
